The flowers are all popping out and it’s time for another installment of Cool Things for Cool People! Well, now it’s April, which means here in New England a lot of the trees are blooming, flowers are starting to show, green is the color outside, and seasonal allergies are beginning to take hold. There’s a lot more happening too! Here’s some fun and mildly interesting things:
Fish Doorbell is back
Vis Deurbel (or FISH DOORBELL) is a site you can go to where you can monitor the underwater channel lock for fish in the Netherlands! If a fish shows itself on the stream, you can click the doorbell, which alerts someone that there’s fish waiting to be let through to go up stream. Most of the time you’ll be looking at murky green water, but every once in a while, if you get lucky, you’ll get to ring the bell. I was lucky enough that I spotted one while pulling up the site to write this post! Fish doorbell is only around during spawning season so make sure to stop in now and see if you can spot a fish!
The Great Moose Migration
In the same vein as the fish doorbell, you can follow live footage of cameras in Sweden capturing moose migrating! The site is in Swedish, but don’t worry, you can still enjoy the video footage no matter what language you speak.
Murderbot is coming
You folks know me… I’m a bit of a scifi buff. I wrote a whole book about robots. Some have even compared that book to The Murderbot Diaries, which I had been meaning to read and putting off. Well, Murderbot is about to be a series on Apple TV, so I totally binge read the book series. Though there’s some flak about the fact that Alexander Skarsgard is not even close to a nonbinary/andro looking person (Murderbot in the books is genderless), I imagine he’s going to do excellently regardless. Murderbot drops on Apple TV on May 16th, 2025.
